This document defines the overall lighting concept or idea of a project and then breaks the script down into thoughts and emotional shifts. These thoughts and emotional shifts are then translated into lighting ideas allowing the creative team a glimpse into the eyes of the lighting designer. The treatment is used to facilitate collaboration between the director and the rest of the creative team as well as develop a language with which the collaborators can communicate with each other efficiently.
Lighting ideas can be very difficult to express to collaborators in other disciplines. Images and short descriptions are meshed together to create a graphic representation of the lighting design ideas. The collage images are a quick way to create conversations between disciplines and to also ensure that color, texture and the atmosphere of the world that is being created is cohesive between all areas of design.

CONCEPTS TO LIGHT PLOT
The descriptions in the script treatment, along with the images and phrases in the collage, are transferred into angles and brush strokes of light. The brush strokes are then transformed into lighting fixtures and the angles of light are turned into lighting positions. Now that the concepts have become lighting fixtures and lighting positions a plot is created that incorporates the design ideas discussed with the creative team.
